Bio

Enya Santamaría is an emerging artist, born in Mexico in 2001.

Her practice focuses on exploring interspecies relationships to imagine new narratives of coexistence and non-human agency, using watercolor, textiles, and sculpture as her primary mediums.

Her interest in visual arts education stems from an interdisciplinary and playful approach, in which creativity serves as a tool for understanding and representing different realities. Her work seeks to integrate art, science, and education within spaces that foster critical thinking, curiosity, and creative expression.

She studied for a Bachelor’s degree in Art and Design at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. She collaborated on the illustration of the Shadow Warrior awards for UGOS (Understanding Gulf Ocean Systems). She also created illustrations for the scientific article “Molecular and morphological criteria for revision of the genus Pachythyone (Holothuroidea: Dendrochirotida: Sclerodactylidae) with description of two new species,” authored by Andrea Alejandra Caballero Ochoa, Carlos Salvador Pedraza-Lara, Brenda Lizbeth Esteban-Vázquez, Pedro Martínez Arbizu, and Francisco Alonso Solís-Marín, for the scientific journal Zootaxa.

She participated in the 2025 Support Program for Projects to Innovate and Improve Education (PAPIME), Ocean Literacy: Visualizing the Ocean for Education, alongside Dr. Elva Escobar, working as a scientific illustrator.

Her other activities include participating in the portfolio review organized by MUAC in 2025; the Tentacular Drawing workshop led by Darío Meléndez in Morelia, Michoacán (2024); and the La Ruta de los Garabatos workshop led by Juan Gedovius in Morelia.

Enya has participated in group exhibitions in Morelia (2024), Mexico City (2024), the State of Mexico (2023), and Xalapa (2023).

She also co-led the Collective Collage workshop with Donaji Renero in Morelia (2025) and led the Narrating Ourselves Through Drawing workshop in Morelia (2025).
